How did 4sight Self Protection come about?
Seeing the need for a more holistic approach to self protection
My name is Kelly Anderson, and my passion for self-defence began in 2009. Krav Maga was my gateway, and I loved the challenge of learning and improving physically.
4sight Self Protection came about because I began to notice gaps. Gaps in my knowledge. Gaps in my teaching. Gaps in how physical skills could apply to different people’s realities. And gaps in the demographics of my classes. This led me to explore the wider contexts around the use of self-defence, and accept a couple of important truths:
Physical self-defence is appropriate in some contexts, but not others.
Physical self-defence is appropriate for some people, but not others.
Most people believe physical self-defence is the main skill they need, but it is only one piece of a much larger puzzle.
When people share their stories of incidents they’ve experienced, they often use the phrase, “I wish I’d had the foresight…”
I want people to develop their foresight through good education, training, and resources. Prevention is better than cure. Avoidance is better than physical engagement.
This goes beyond simply ‘planning ahead’.
4 sights for personal safety
Solid self-protection incorporates our 4 ‘sights’:
Regardless of age, fitness level, gender, or any other personal details, everybody can develop their 4 ‘sights’.
